The Entrepreneurial Machine – it’s all about the people…

We live in an ever more connected world. No longer can we simply push out sales messages and expect people to buy from us. Today’s reality is that there are millions of businesses out there and we can find out about them at the click of a mouse. So why should someone buy from you? It’s about trust; it’s about building personal relationships; it’s about people …

the entrepreneurial machine is all about people

It’s easy to sit back and gaze over your empire and feel contentment with your achievements and it is only natural and right to congratulate yourself when you feel you’ve made it. You are now a successful entrepreneur, aren’t you?

Well, this will be the case only if you keep your eye on the ball when it comes to your business relationships. Success will only last for as long as you are focusing on the key areas within your business that make it work. So what are the 3 things to always have in the forefront of your mind? In no particular order it’s about:

  1. People
  2. People
  3. People

It may look strange to see the same word repeated on all three bullet points, but it’s how you deal with people in all three of the following areas that is key to staying successful:

People in your network …

More and more of our lives are exposed through social networking and technology in general. This is all good as long as you are managing it. Having your presence splashed over the web is great; it raises your profile, gets people reading and talking about you and draws attention to your brand … so it must all be good, yes?

Well, equally it makes you more exposed, so you need to remember to be consistent with your approach and chose carefully who sees what. If you are connected to business people on Facebook, then you don’t want to be posting sad status messages about how you’re having cashflow problems or that staff members are causing you grief.

It’s always better to be selective in what you say; sometimes it’s better not to post anything at all! Both positive and negative messages on your social media accounts can have a direct effect on your business. Many of these people are prospects so why would you want to put them off?

    People in your business …

Every single person in your business is as important as the next one, regardless of their rank or what they do; they are all responsible for your success. Remember your business is only as good as your weakest team member, so always be focused on their abilities and developing them where required.

Always share the successes of your business with your team as this will grow loyalty, however, remember to cut out the deadwood if someone isn’t consistently performing nor doing the job they’ve been asked to do. There should always be a way to motivate someone to perform better, and it’s your responsibility to find it. But sometimes, no matter what you try … you just have to let them go. It’s your business, not theirs … so don’t take it personally.

People in your client base …

Every business lives or dies on their customers and clients. Without them, you have no business so clearly, with them, you have success. These people are your priority because it’s far easier to sell to an existing client than convert a new one.

They must always know that you value them, so keep in regular contact, let them know how important they are to you, and ensure that your team prioritises them at all times.

Of course, there are many aspects of business that any Entrepreneur must concentrate on, and you’ll find many nuggets of useful information throughout this blog. However, remember that your network, your team and your clients are what make the machine work.

Without them it all just grinds to a halt!

        Be excellent …
